Ground Zero Youth is a youth ministry based out of Mountainview Community Church in Agassiz BC.

A church's youth group plays an ever-so-vital part in the growth and nurturing of that church. We call our ministry Ground Zero because we believe that the choices youth make today will shape their lives forever. These students have a lot of pressure of their shoulders and we want to be a help, not a hindrance in their lives. We want to aid, not take over, in the raising their parents are already doing. Having said that, we see our youth ministry as a foundation for these students to nurture friendship and discipleship skills that they can take out into the world.

 

The definition of ground zero is a starting point or the most basic level; or the site directly below, directly above or at the point of detonation of a nuclear weapon. Why do we associate ourselves with a war term? Well it's simple. We want to disciple these students as best we can so that when their time comes, they can step out into the world and be able to use Ground Zero Youth Ministries as a detonation point of their explosive ministry for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.

The mission of Ground Zero Youth is to raise up the next generation to be devoted followers of Jesus Christ and to spread God's Word by our actions and speech.

 

Ground Zero nurtures the individual in the context of community. Taking kids where they are, Ground Zero staff and volunteers work hand in hand with parents to provide a nurturing environment that fosters spiritual and emotional growth.

 

As a church-based ministry, Ground Zero Youth provides an intergenerational setting that parallels the world into which our young people will emerge as servant-leaders.

 

Weekly Meetings 

Ground Zero Youth meets every Sunday night, except for weeks when we hold an event, at the Ag Hall from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. All grades 7 - 12 are welcome to come out, play in the gym, and receive solid Biblical teaching.
 

We also schedule fun events throughout the year.  The purpose of our events is two-fold: we're committed to providing a safe setting for youth to have fun and grow.  Secondly, our events are a great way for kids from the community to be exposed to Christians and Christianity. 

Instead of preaching at kids to be "good kids", we create opportunities for young people to discover Christ for themselves. When a person finds Christ, being good takes care of itself.

There is no age requirement for usefulness in God's world. Ground Zero affirms the innate giftedness of young people and gives them opportunities to discover their gifts and develop craftsmanship in the context of compassion and service to others.

Everything we do is for a reason. Not willing to settle for a social club serving a religious in-crowd, Ground Zero fosters Christian maturity with a sense of mission.

The most receptive people-group to the gospel is young people. 75% of professions of faith in Christ come before age 18. Ground Zero exists to make disciples.

God knows us through and through, and loves us. If we fake it, we're phoney. Ground Zero models and encourages people to be real who they are and what they are, with love.
